Aggregate Industries Replacement Conveyor at Torr Works
In September 2015, Centristic LTD where awarded the contract to replace a conveyor at Aggregate Industries, Torr Works Quarry site due to the existing conveyor not meeting the required performance level and sustaining varies damage over its years of use.
The conveyor to be replaced was a 40m screw take up conveyor taking oversized material to be re-crushed down to a suitable size.
The replacement conveyor provided by Centristic LTD had to receive feed at an angle from the bottom tail end and discharge feed at an angle from the head end onto a screen.
The conveyor was supplied with walkways on both side, a level section at the tail end to assist with maintenance and belt fitting, a locking door at the head end building entrance and full material protection from the weather along its length.
Head and tail sections required in-depth planning and design in order to receive and discharge material in a small area and allowing for the material to change angle as its moves from conveyor to conveyor to screen. The finished product was a big improvement over original
conveyor, offering better dust sealing and better life expectancy. The design also reduced the number of supports required, removing any potential contact points with plant equipment moving around under the conveyor again prolonging service life.
The client also requested that the conveyor be provided with a mounting system to hold a new roll of belt over the conveyor, allowing easy installation and replacement of the belt. These mounts needed to have a special storage rack fitted to the bottom walkway to keep the mounts out of the way when not in use.
Installation spanned over 3 weeks, including removal and disposal of original conveyor, and the installation and commissioning where finished on time.
