Hemerdon Tungsten Mine – Project Updates
15th December 2014
Centristics work as part of the Hemerdon tungsten and tin mine project is coming along on schedule with work progressing at a good pace even faced with some difficult site conditions due to the weather. The tertiary crushing area in the main processing section of the mine is nearing completion with all the internal work completed and the majority of the cladding applied.
The transfer section that connects two different conveyors together has been erected with the discharge end of one conveyor and the pick up end of another conveyor also installed within the framework.
Centristic has now started working in the largest building that they have been contracted for which is the primary crushing area, which received and initially processes all of the mined material. This building contains one conveyor fully enclosed within the building, the tail or receiving end of the large primary conveyor, a very large receptacle hopper or “ROM Bin” and 6 connecting chutes for directing material. All of these parts have been fabricated by Centristic and are now awaiting installation. So far one of the chutes has been installed along with some of the internal conveyor and primary conveyor.

The work at the Hemerdon mine has been continuing at a good pace with the amount of workforce on site increasing, and the tertiary crushing building is nearing completion. The internal chutes have been installed and the cladding has started to go on. The internal piping for the building that runs the water, coolant and lubrication around the different systems has also been installed.
The work on the transfer section that connects two conveyors together is continuing and the framework is nearly finished. Part of one of the conveyors that is being connected has also been installed.

The weather is good on site which makes life easier and means erection times are staying on target.
The steel for the tertiary crushing building has started going up and with the help from Centristic the large crushing units have been craned into place, meaning the rest of the building can now be installed around these units.

Weather has been very variable on site making progress difficult, but due to great work by the on site staff all parts have been going up on time. A large number of the conveyors have now been errrected on site and most of the chute work has been installed in the primary, secondary and tertiary buildings. Preparation work is underway to start erecting the largest conveyor on site, spanning over 170m. The head and tail of the conveyor have already been installed and the site team are readying to get the connecting truss section in place in the coming weeks. These sections will be a challenge for the ground team due to the weight of each section, combined with the terbulant conditions and the height at which they need to be installed.

Work is progressing well on site and the large majority of the conveyors are up and ready to be comissioned. There are currently only two out of the 11 conveyors left to erect and one of these is in progress at this time. This conveyor is one of the largest to be installed and spans over 170m taking material from the primary crushing area up to the main processessing facility.
The erection of this conveyor is diffciult due to its location, height and span. The conveyor is being lifted in in 24m section that fit between the vertical trestles, and with each 24m section weighing almost 18 tonnes this is the most technical conveyor to install, but so far the sections have gone up smoothly and to plan. Erection of this conveyor will continue for another few days and then the site team will make a start on the last conveyor of this project.
