In July 2021 Centristic was appointed to contribute to the construction of an exciting new water flume staircase for the pool at Windsor Leisure Centre, in collaboration with Bailey Partnership and on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. We were commissioned to design, build and install the 11m tall spiral staircase structure with balustrading leading to the flume’s entrance.
We began by taking a 3D scan of the area to generate point cloud data to ensure that the staircase could be designed to fit perfectly with existing structures. Our in-house Design & Engineering teams then created the design and detailing, using the latest Tekla 3D software.
Fabrication could then begin, with the beams processed by our supplier using the largest tube laser cutting machine in the UK to ensure precision cutting. With all the parts fabricated, our installation team undertook a full trial assembly to ensure a smooth installation on site.
In November 2021 the Windsor pool was closed to the public and drained for the works to begin. Access to the area was challenging, hence we brought in a specialist spider crane and spider MEWP (mobile elevating work platform). The installation took just 20 days, and thanks to our thorough preparation and skilled team, all ran smoothly with a successful build achieved.
The pool, with its new flume, is set to reopen in January 2022.
